The need, importance and obvious benefits of Arbitration And Alternative Dispute Resolution [ADR] to Africa is no longer in doubt. What is worrisome and should bother us today as Africans, is how to get our people to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to fully participate in this Global Dispute Resolution Mechanism being used in both political and economic/business arena, and in which Africans are most times placed at a serious disadvantage.
We are of the view that if the international economical/business community is desirous of maintaining global economic peace and encourage free and cross-border trade, based on equity and justice a level playing field must be created for an effective resolution of disputes which inevitably arise in commercial and other transactions……..
………. The development of our continent is our fundamental responsibility and we must live up to it. The choices are clear and unambiguous; either we develop our continent in all its ramifications or we remain under-developed with its tragic consequences.
