He is a world-renowned author, arbitrator, mediator and fellow of the Association of Arbitrators of South Africa. He is a Professor of Mercantile Law and former Dean of Law at the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. He is a Member of the Pan- African User’s Council of London Court of International Arbitration and Commissioner Small Claims Court of South Africa. He specializes in Arbitration Legislation and was involved in drawing up a new Arbitration Statute for South Africa and also acted as a consultant to the South African Law Reform Commission which drafted the new Mozambique Arbitration law of 1999. He has been practising law and arbitration since 1975.
